Job Description
The Mental Health Practitioner is a full-time position in Student Counseling Services, Phoenix Health
Sciences Campus, that provides individual, group and couples counseling for Creighton students in the context of psychological services.
Responsibilities include conducting intake interviews, assessing students' mental status through interviews or observations, and developing
treatment plans or making referrals to the appropriate services. This position also provides crisis intervention services, case management,
and outreach programming to students, as well as consultation services to faculty, staff and referral sources. This position maintains
appropriate professional documentation of all services within the Student Counseling Services electronic medical record. Practitioners with
an Independent Licensed Mental Health Practitioners may supervise provisionally licensed counselors.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling or social work.
3-5 years experience in counseling or related area preferred
Knowledge,
Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests;
learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions, and for
career counseling and guidance.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
Strong
communication skills, both oral and written
Adherence to confidentiality standards
Active Listening - giving full attention to what
other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at
inappropriate times.
Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
